This week’s flavor is Botan Calrose Rice. Rice is a staple of many cuisines, and with good reason. It is easy to prepare and can be used in a variety of dishes. Also, it’s very affordable! I purchased a 5 pound bag for $4.48. According to the nutritional label, this bag holds approximately 50 servings. This comes out to be $.09 per serving. If you use a lot of rice, you can purchase in even larger quantities and cut your costs even more.
I’m a huge fan of stir fry. You can literally throw a few chopped veggies in a pan and add some rice or noodles and have a delicious healthy meal. I also want to play around with some more creative recipes this week, including a dessert rice and a mock sushi roll. Rice is also a great staple for casseroles and soups.
Once upon a time I couldn’t make rice properly. I know that sounds really ridiculous, but in my early twenties I could never seem to get my rice rooked thoroughly. Pair that with the fact that I would always run out of water in my pan and it was a recipe for disaster. The instructions are on the packaging for a reason. It turns out, I was keeping my heat waaaaaay too high, boiling the water out before the rice had a chance to cook enough.
