The Face Behind the Flavor – About Me

Spread the love

Welcome! If you’ve found your way here, you’re probably getting ready to cook up something amazing. I hope you find some inspiration!

A little about me… I’m a mother of two beautiful kids – Dean, who is almost 4, and Bay, who is 7 months. I recently left a wonderful career to focus on raising my children. While we were planning for this change, my husband Asa and I figured out pretty quickly that a large portion of our disposable income goes to food and dining out. We have had to figure out a way to cut back on out spending while not cutting out on the quality of our meals. I. LOVE. FOOD. Maybe a little too much. Bland and boring meals are simply not an option. I also love to cook, and now that I don’t have an office job to run to, I have time to do more of it.

I haven’t always been a good cook. It wasn’t that long ago that my parents would have certainly raised their eyebrows at that proclamation, and – knowing my dad – most likely some smart ass comments would be made about my ability to turn an entire tray of cookies into a single giant cookie cake… unintentionally. However, over the years I’ve taught myself to cook and feel like I’ve become pretty good at it. I rarely use recipes. I like to cook by taste, so if you’re wanting a measured out, step by step exact process to follow, you might be disappointed. If you can deal with more old school measurements (a handful of this, a pinch of that) then we will get along just fine.

One thing you will learn about me pretty quickly is that on top of being a self-proclaimed foodie, I’m also extremely frugal. That is the basis of this blog. Every week, I will find a common ingredient to use in the recipes I share. Most likely, it will be something I found on sale or something my garden has decided to give me a surplus of for that particular week. A garden is an awesome way to save some money while getting beautiful fresh produce. I don’t have a very green thumb, but have always been pretty successful with having a garden. There’s no reason for good food to have to be expensive. I’ll explore ways to save money on cooking for a family without feeling like I’m missing out on eating at the world’s best taco shop that was literally a two minute walk from my old office… ok, maybe sometimes. Each recipe I share, I’ll break apart how much the meal cost so you can see how easy it is to dine on a budget.

I look forward to sharing ideas with you and finding ways to help you save money and eat well!
